Blanket News!

Blanket News!

Our blankets were collected on Wednesday morning. The driver had travelled through the night from Kent, to arrive at Church by 8.30am so thank you for all the prayers for safe transportation. In total there were 82 blankets and 9 small baby size ones. As the primary focus for SMILE at this time is shoeboxes, they ask also for a minimum of 50 shoe boxes to make it worthwhile for the lorry to travel to us. As a result of the Kosova Kafe and kind donations from various people we were able to fill 35 boxes from Fellside which together with boxes collected from 2 New- castle schools meant that we were also able to send 124 shoe boxes together with various hats scarves and jumpers. This is an excellent result as it has in no way detracted from the excellent work this church does in supporting Samaritans Purse.

As to the future, we keep knitting if people are happy to do this (and we already have 1 blanket to add to 2012's total.) If you know of anyone who has been knit- ting for us, then please do tell them this latest news and thank them for all they are doing. If you feel that a thank you card from the Church would be appropriate then please have a word with Jean who will supply this.

Extraordinary General Meeting –Tomorrow night – Wednesday 7th September @ 7.30pm

Led by the Leadership Team, this meeting will be primarily about vision, structure and the way forward for the church.  It will be from a practical point of view, not just theory, and concentrating on the part everyone can play to realise the potential we have in Fellside.  It won't be all from the front – there'll be several opportunities for prayer, discussion and feedback. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND – this is a crucial meeting for the development of Fellside, and you're part of it!

Prayer Meeting – TONIGHT Tuesday 9th August 7.30pm

After seeing the terrible scenes of violence and destruction on our TV screens, we feel it right that we open the church tonight at 7.30pm to come together to pray.  There are many people in the community who feel that prayer is needed for this, so please invite anybody you know who may want to join us.  Also, if you have contact with any church friends who are not on the internet, please pass the word around.  The meeting will go on until 10, but feel free to come and go as you wish.

Kosova Kafe

Kosova Kafe will open again in the autumn, the first date being on Friday Septem-ber 23rd. As before the Kafe will be open between 5.30 and 6.30 Drop in any time in that hour for a 2 course evening meal and treat yourself to a break from the cooking and the washing up!! We ask for a minimum donation of £3.50 and the money raised will be used to buy items to fill shoeboxes to be sent out to Kosova and other Balkan countries via SMILE. By raising money in this way we, as a Church, will be able to support SMILE in all the charity does in supporting needy children whilst still providing shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse as we have done in the past. The sign up sheet (booking is essential please) for your meal will appear on the notice board in the middle of August so look out for it. The main course on this occasion will be corned beef pie. A full menu will be included on the sign up sheet and there will be a vegetarian option.

QUIZ NIGHT Saturday 21st May

Starting at 7 p.m., in church. Liz Kent is our quizmaster so we know we’ll have an evening of brain teasers!! Come along and enjoy the fun. Light re-freshments will be provided. Tickets £3 from Sue Whitehead

Guest Speaker

For the evening of the 8th May our guest speaker will be Phil Dobson. Phil works with Aquilaway, a Christian homeless charity in Gateshead. We donated to Aquila from our tithe fund last year and many of you will want to hear some-thing about the work. Everyone is welcome; you may want to invite friends who have a particular interest in this area. Tea and coffee will be served after the service. Any questions please see Kay Z

Creations

The next Creations is on Friday 13th May when we would like to do some can-dle making. The idea we have is to pour the melted wax into a tea cup. This style of candle has been seen in Laura Ashley for around £14-99. We are now asking if anyone has any tea cups and saucers they no longer want. Could you please put them in the box in the vestibule. We would be very grateful for any donations. Any ladies who would like to come along to Creations and do this candle making are welcome to bring a favourite cup and saucer or any cups and saucers they have kept and no longer need. Thank you in advance for your help. Claire Morland.

CAP Money Course

CAP Money Course
Wednesday 2nd February sees the launch of Fellside’s next CAP Money Course
The free ‘CAP Money’ course runs for three weeks and is an astonishingly simple money management course to help people organize their finances and plan for the future. The course has something for every-one, and it could be something to at-tend yourself and, if appropriate, invite a friend or neighbour. The course works for even those who are good with money and was oversubscribed last time. Don’t delay in booking a place! Roger Whitworth or Steve Small would be very happy to tell you more!

E100

This week is the launch of E100 - a challenge to read 100 passages from the Bible over the next 7 months. Each week there will be 5 portions of the Bible to read and respond to and at the end of the week, the Sunday morning service will be based around the previous week's readings. This is a great opportunity to get to know God better through His word, so why not start today?

This week's readings for the E100 challenge are:

IN THE BEGINNING
1. Creation Genesis 1:1–2:25
2. The Fall Genesis 3:1–3:24
3. The Flood Genesis 6:5–7:24
4. God’s Covenant with Noah Genesis 8:1–9:17
5. Tower of Babel Genesis 11:1–11:9
