Christmas Day at Fellside

Christmas Day at Fellside - 11a m (not 10.15 as advertised in the plan) Again an early reminder that our Christmas Day Service will be as last year at the later time of 11am. This gives plenty of time to open all the presents Santa has brought ( and to bring one along to the Service!) and also time to get home again to put the sprouts on! Coffee will be served in the vestibule from 10.30 so come in good time and share a coffee together before the service. This is also definitely something for friends and family so why not bring along all those people who share your Christmas Day with you too.

Carol Singing at the QE hospital

Carol Singing at the QE hospital
We have been asked again this year by the hospital chaplain to carol sing round some of the wards at the QE. This will take place on Monday December 21st. Please meet in the hospital chapel to be ready to move off at 6.45pm. Please borrow from Church and bring with you a copy of the blue hymn book. Lifts can be arranged for anyone needing one.

Shoeboxes

SHOEBOXES
Thank you to everyone involved with the shoe box campaign. Approximately 500 shoe boxes were sent out from this church last Tuesday. The shoe boxes came from the church congregation, local schools, nursing home, U3A, Group Inner Wheel, sheltered accommodation and local community (apologies if I have missed anyone). As a result of supplying covered shoe boxes I was able to send a donation of £85 to Samaritan’s Purse. The boxes this year are going to BELARUS and UKRAINE.

Dunston Hill Methodist Church invite you to a concert

Carol Singing in the village - Saturday December 19th 10.15

Carol Singing in the village - Saturday December 19th 10.15
Carol Singing in the village with the Dunston Silver Band has become something of a tradition for us and this year is no exception. We will meet opposite the Co op just before 10.15 on December 19th and sing for about an hour. The shoppers really enjoy us being there and hopefully as usual some will join in. This year we are confident it won't rain! Put this date in your diary now and come and be part of the fun!

The Blankets have gone!

The Blankets have gone!
The blankets set off on their journey, initially to the SMILE warehouse in Kent, on Wednesday morning. In total there were 41 adult blankets ( this included 3 that were actually double size) and another 8 suitable for either a baby or child. This is an amazing effort and thanks to everyone who has been involved. As stated in the newsletter last week the baskets for wool and squares will remain in the vestibule and for anyone who wants to continue with this initiative we will just keeping making them up and sending them off when appropriate

Christmas is Coming!

This is an early notice of our Carol singing visits to the sheltered housing and retirement appartments in Whickham.

Monday December 7th - Chase Court 7.30
Monday December 14th - Tindale Drive 7.30
Thursday December 17th - Castle Close 7.30

Please put these dates in your diary and try to attend one of them at least. The residents at these establishments really look forward to our visits and it's good to have a good group of our Church family there to share the evening with them.

( NB There is plenty of parking at Castle Close and Tindale Drive but please remember, out of respect for the residents of Chase Court, not to use their private car park - park on the road or further up Rectory Lane by the football ground)

Crib 'n' Candles

This is something new for Fellside this year and will take place on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. It will be something for all the family ( and by this we mean anyone from 10 days to 100!) It will be something to bring family and friends along to as well. We will meet on the top of Whickham School field ( the junction of Fellside Road and Parkway) with torches and lanterns and will walk from there to Church for a short Carol Service followed by tea/coffee/juice and biscuits. We will meet just as it's getting dark at 3.30 and the afternoon will be finished by 4.30. Please do be thinking who you can bring along and look out those lanterns!
NB The pound shop in the Metro Centre has LED tea lights- safe and they won't blow out!

Church Painting

Following the church cleaning day last month we have identified several areas of the church that would benefit from repainting. We currently have one volunteer for this task - if you feel that you could help please speak to Christine Graham - Many thanks.

The Methodist Youth Assembly

The Methodist Youth Assembly is hosting a weekend of services at Ushaw College in Durham from 13th - 15th November. Please pray this week for God to move through the youth during this time.

Dickensian Christmas Market - Saturday 28th November 10-1pm

We need the help of absolutely everyone to make this a success and there are lists in the vestibule for you to sign to indicate how you can help. Below is an indication of some of the ways you can get involved.

1) Contributions to the stalls Toiletries are needed for this stall - to Marilyn Moore or Margaret Barnes. Plants, Bulbs, Cacti needed - (bring on the Friday night). Cakes to sell - (bring on the Friday night). Home made sweets needed - please sign the list if you are willing to make these and see Wendy for a recipe.

2) The tea rooms Please sign the list to provide scones (fruit and cheese), sweet mince pies, and larger dinner-plate size apple pies. Please offer to be a waiter/waitress or to help in the kitchen.

3) Stall builders We will be providing a simple wooden frame for each stall to be decorated by the stall holders. Please sign up if you can help with this and with clearing the church on the evening of Wednesday 25th.(note change of day)

4) Help to set up and to tidy away We hope that everyone will come on the Friday night at 7 p.m. and help set up, but just as importantly, help will be needed on the Saturday afternoon to get the church back ready for Sunday worship. If you specifically volunteer with this it will be an enormous help to the FEAT group.

5)***This week's special requests!!***
A) Please add your name to the sign-up sheets (on the notice board) for whatever involvement you can- please don't leave it until the last minute!
B) As the Market attracts many people who do not usually venture into the church, we would like to display as many examples of our activities and groups as possible. If you would like to make a flat display to put up in the hall then please see Clare to discuss size etc, and if you already have a notice board for your group why not take this opportunity to make it look its best, or maybe to give it a Christmas theme?
C) We are looking for a group or family who can run the mulled wine stall. This includes sourcing the mulled wine, which must be non-alcoholic. Please see Clare or Jean if you can help- this stall was a big hit last year.
D) Please continue to think about your costume and especially about if you have any items of clothing that you could lend to others . It was amazing how everyone rose to the challenge last time and it all added to the Victorian atmosphere. Mob caps are available from the FEAT team!

Blankets for Kosova

We now have an amazing 30 blankets plus a few others for babies and children!! We also have proper blanket bags to send them in thanks to the generosity of the Girls House group. ( these will be useful for storage when they arrive at their destination). The blankets will be collected sometime during the week commencing November 16th and so they will be in Church on Sunday November 15th when we will offer prayers for their safe arrival and for those who will receive them. This would be a good opportunity to invite anyone who has been knitting for us to either of the services on that day so why not ask them along?

Please keep talking about the Christmas Market and inviting people along. We need everyone to be at Church on the day making people feel at home and if you could specifically stand at the door and welcome people for a short time, please sign the list for that too. Last but not least, please be looking for the outfit you wore last year. It was amazing how everyone rose to the challenge last time and it all added to the Victorian atmosphere. Any ladies needing a mob-cap please speak to Gillian Gardner.
